Projects

From January 2021 to April 2023 I led WaterAid's social media team. This has involved:

  • Scoping, commissioning and executing a new social media strategy

  • Acting as editor-in-chief for our five organic channels

  • Developing a reactive content process to better take advantage of newsworthy moments

  • Capacity building, including hiring and training a social media manager, and creating a new social video producer role within the film team

  • Presenting and performing in TikTok content (pictured)

  • Pioneering new features and platforms such as livestreaming, Instagram collaborator posts etc

WaterAid's has gained 25% more social media followers since I took charge, has been nominated for a best use of social media award and has been approached by TikTok for a partnership on the back our sector-acclaimed channel.

Water Means Life, WaterAid

I was a communications lead for this multi-million pound appeal, raising funds to build clean water infrastructure for health centres in Mozambique. A highlight of this appeal was a social-first hero film which I led on from ideation, through to completion. It involved:

  • Creating a storyboard for the creative concept

  • Sourcing and briefing a film production studio

  • Working with the celebrity team to source and brief talent appearing in the film

  • Acting as executive producer on the shoot

  • Planning and executing the promotional campaign across celebrity and WaterAid channels (paid & organic).

The film was viewed over 120k times over all channels.

Art of Change, WaterAid

I was a digital lead for this corporate partnership event with the British Art Fair. WaterAid was invited by BAF to pitch for a partnership activation at the three day art fair held in London's Saatchi Gallery. For this project I led on:

  • Creating and pitching the creative concept, alongside events and media team leads

  • Running a hybrid auction for fair attendees in person and online to bid on our collection pieces

  • Working with a freelance designer to create a sub brand for the campaign, pictured

  • Creating content for WaterAid, artists and partners to promote the event

The event raised £30k and generated a substantial amount of media coverage, including a segment on Sky News. British Art fair also renewed the partnership for 2023.

Social media strategy, You Before Two

I created a social media strategy for this small sex education charity. As part of the project I:

  • Interviewed the client on their objectives and needs

  • Undertook a social media analysis to determine current channel performance and areas for improvement

  • Produced a suite of social media content templates using Canva

  • Produced a designed strategy document outlining best practice and tactics for TikTok, LinkedIn and Instagram

The client was very happy with my work, commenting: "Nick grasped the key concepts of our organisation very quickly and was able to produce a fantastically engaging strategy document at very short notice."

Write for Rights, Amnesty International

Write for Rights is the world’s largest letter writing campaign, run yearly by Amnesty International. I was the digital lead for the UK arm of the campaign for two years running. This involved:

  • Planning digital campaign strategy alongside the campaigns team

  • Creating all online digital content including website, emails, social media posts

  • Commissioning and co-directing a campaign video

  • Working with a web development agency on user experience improvements

  • Leading on influencer activities with the organisation’s celebrity liaison team, including stunts, video content and a podcast

In the two years that I was digital lead for the campaign I increased the number of solidarity messages sent to rights holders by 100% one year (from 40k to 80k) and 25% the next (from 80k to 100k).

The London Resort Source

During the COVID lockdowns I started a YouTube channel about a new theme park planned to open in 2024. Using my presenting, video editing, branding and SEO skills I was able to organically grow the channel to 500 subscribers within a year, with the project gaining acclaim in the community and with the director general of the project.

Unfortunately, the project was put on hold in late 2021 due to concerns over the impact on wildlife, but with a new project team installed I hope to start producing content for the channel again soon.
